Bulk food stores are popping up every single day, making them easy to access + reducing our single use plastic consumption by HUGE amounts.
The urbanlist have a great guide to Melbourne’s best bulk food stores.
I used to work at a Berwick Bulk Foods, and it was amazing, definitely my favourite job ever.
Each bulk store has different products but they’re all similar.
I shop at the source often to get all the spices that I love to cook with.
The source has more organic options which intern increases the price.
At a lower price point in some departments, Berwick Bulk foods offers an extensive range of flours, seeds, nuts, oats, proteins, cereals, chocolates, local honey, almond + peanut butter, zero waste retail products, oil & abode cleaning range in bulk. I can’t say I love one more than another because they both serve different purposes for me personally.
You can take your own jars from home or containers from a previous store-bought item, they weigh the container before you fill it with bulk items & take the weight of the container off at the end of the transaction.
You can buy as little or as much as you like, making it easy for those recipes that require a small number of things you don’t usually use every day – this intern reduces the amount of food wastage AND packaging.

Jars are aesthetically pleasing and make my perfectionist-self so happy.
Another great thing about bulk food stores is that they usually have a great range of zero waste personal care products.
I love the hemp shampoo & conditioner bars. I also buy Dr.Bronner’s soap in bulk.
Most bulk food stores offer cleaning products in bulk.
Berwick Bulk Foods has dish washing powder, dish liquid, surface spray, washing powder and so much more.
I will write another blog about particular items you can swap out to be even more eco-friendly, making your life at the bulk food store even more breezy.
Just simply shopping in bulk stores makes you feel wholesome.
Looking after our environment is imperative for our existence.
If we can make small changes every day, we can change the world.
